FAQ

When can I apply for the Hurliman Scholarship?
After October 1, 2023 and before the postmark deadline of February 1 , 2024.
What happens if an application is incomplete or is sent after the deadline?
The applicant will not be considered for an award.
Is there a minimum GPA or other criteria that's required in order to be considered for a scholarship?
Yes. There is a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. (unweighted GPA)
If I plan to study music or art, will I still be considered for an award?
Yes. There is no restriction on the field of study that the student will pursue.
Is there a limit on the amount of money that's given to a student?
Yes. The four-year scholarship includes tuition, room and board and a book allowance at the selected college or university (up to $30,000/year). The Board of the Hurliman Scholarship Foundation will work with the specific institution to make sure the above expenses are covered. The exact amount of the award will depend on the cost of the selected college or university and will also depend on whether the student is awarded any other scholarships. The Foundation may also award one-year scholarships.
Does the scholarship apply to a student who plans to study at a two-year college?
No, not at this time. Only graduating high school students who plan to attend a 4-year accredited U.S. college or university should apply.
Must I be a U.S. citizen to be eligible?
Yes.
Suppose I want to participate in my college's study abroad program. Will I still receive my award?
Yes. The Foundation will pay a scholarship award consisting of tuition, room and board, and books (up to $30,000 per year) directly to a scholarship recipient’s attending college or university for a Study Abroad or exchange student program which is in the curriculum of the attending college or university.  Additionally if a scholarship recipient selects a Study Abroad program through a U.S. company that specializes in organizing study abroad programs, and that program is approved by the attending college or university, the scholarship award would be paid directly to that company.  No payments will be made directly to any overseas college or university.  If the cost of the study abroad program is less than $25,000, the difference will revert back to the Foundation.
NOTE: The Hurliman Scholarship Foundation will not pay for travel or personal expenses associated with the study abroad program.
Do I have to reapply every year for the Hurliman Scholarship or will I automatically receive the award every year?
The award is renewed annually if the student continues to study full-time (minimum 12 credit hours per term) and makes adequate progress in his/her school work.
What if I transfer schools?
You must attend the same school for four years in order to continue receiving the Hurliman Scholarship. One year winners will be subject to the same no-transfer rule.
